The Haiti Summit - Update

It is with great excitement and humble thanks for all your support that we provide an update on the Haiti summit. We are just so amazed at the result of the Summit which can only be described as a history making event. With community Leaders, Senior Pastors of major churches, and Denominational Chiefs in attendance from across the nation, the three-day event saw Dr Robi Sonderegger, Paul O'Rourke (former CEO of Compassion Australia) and prominent Ministry Director Gérald Bataille, sharing messages that challenged and inspired attendees to take up the challenge of fighting for the rights of trafficked children and taking a stand against child slavery.

After a few days of education on the essentials of child develop and community responsibility, attendees workshopped and brainstormed a ‘Resolution' for the protection of children and the abolition of child slavery in Haiti (with commitments made at personal, church and community levels). These commitments were then compiled into a formal 10-point Resolution or 'Charter' which was presented on the last day. The culmination of the event came when each leader stood to sign the Resolution for best interests of the Haitian child & the abolishment of child slavery as a symbol of their commitment.

The significance of this event cannot be underestimated. There has been no united front within Christendom for the abolishment of child slavery anywhere in the world since the 1800's, and never before has such a charter existed in Haiti. In the new year, Family Challenge will continue to work alongside and follow up with each leader who attended the Summit. The Charter is being formally published by Haiti's mainstream media and a documentary of the entire event is currently being completed.
