Hold The Line for Haiti

In the wake of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Port au Prince (Haiti), orphaned and abandoned children are now more vulnerable than ever to exploitation and abuse. Hold The Line for Haiti is a movement of concerned people around the world that want to be a voice for these children, and intentionally protect them against trafficking and domestic slavery.

Current Exploitation

More than a quarter of a million Haitian children are living as domestic slaves, many of whom have been commercially trafficked from poor rural provinces. Domestic child slaves are typically seen as a 'thing', not a 'person'. They are refused access to school, receive no payment or gratitude for the services they render, and experiences frequent physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their owners. These children are devoid of love. It is for the sake of these children that we now prepare to take a stand and Hold The Line.

What can be done?

A multi-faceted, strategic approach to eradicate domestic servitude and safeguard vulnerable children is currently being coordinated with a coalition of humanitarian organisations and churches on the ground in Haiti. Given the magnitude of the disaster, there is real opportunity for transformation in Haiti. An intensive educational symposium is being planned for October 2010 in Port au Prince.
